Gauteng Department of Education Reviews

Offers a conducive teaching and learning environment.

I have a great team in Maths and Science and it has kept me strong. The learners are a little bit of a challenge as some oof them are very rude. I enjoy obtaining quality results after working so hard and seeing your work paid off. Learners pass despite their home circumstances.

Pros: Great opportunity for growth
Cons: Rude learners

A life changing experience working at this enviroment

My work is challenging everyday working with children that have different disabilities, you learn more everyday on how to assist them. Day to day admin work and reception. Admission and registration of learners, distributing mail memorandums circulars to different offices and personnel. I have learnt how to deal with different disabilities of which some i did not know. The most challenging about this job is that you need to be patient and understanding because you are dealing with learners with different disabilities from different backgrounds and families.

Pros: Learning more about yourself in a different community
Cons: Be available all the time even after hours

Excellent learning curve

I start work at 7:30 am and finish 15:00 on Mondays and Teusdays which will be in class teaching English Grade 6 and 7. I get along very well with my co-workers .During my teaching career I always learn new skills and technics in teaching English. I enjoy most being in the class with my learners teaching and learning. I love conversing with my co-workers and exchanging ideas and finding ways to improve our teaching. The most challenging part of the the job is our learners especially when it comes to disciplinary issues.

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion
Cons: Learner discipline

Flexilble worker with high level of innovation is what is advised by our district director.

I usually start at the office and review some duties performed in the previous day and do some touch ups, check emails and respond where needed and print those that needs to be disseminated to the relevant staff members for action. My main responsibility is administrating Public Relations and communications in the district, do marketing related duties where we engage with a number of stakeholders that holds interest within the basic education sector. I am a team player and can perform working under pressure and independently, in our structure survival is based on how interactions with others is practiced. I have learnt to think out of the box and work even under inadequate resources, but still perform as anticipated by the management. I enjoy being part of an ongoing process, I hate to fail but learn from it if it happens. I dont like being incompetent. Most challenging aspects of my job entails attending to issues or crisis that are detrimental to the district's name.

Pros: Great chances for growth and innovativeness
Cons: pressurising media that needs quick responses
