Gauteng Department of Agriculture And Rural Development Reviews

Being me

I am a public Servant with daily, weekly, monthly and yearly targets. Most of my job is field and there is equipment's that I need to carry with. I report my work in a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis. I enjoy working with research matters, feasibility studies for agricultural project and soil survey with its data capturing and maintenances. The most challenging aspect of the work is to get a lot of feasibility studies requests that needs to be done in a short period in which it is required for me to work overnight drafting reports for presentation to the approval committee. The other challenge with the job is telling people that really in need of job through agricultural project that their land is not feasible and in order to rectify this they are suggested with possible land acquisition methods they can try. I have learnt to work with people of different attitudes to mediate them till understanding.

Pros: opportunity for growth
Cons: having to qualifty for growt, demand gets high

Normal day at work

My day starts at 7:30 a.m with a review of emails and responding to urgent queries, moving on to my normal to do list and attending meetings. I have a good working relationship with my colleagues, as a manager it is very important to keep a good relationship with others, respect for self and others. I have learned that to be the best you have to put more efforts and understand the environment in which you work in. Working in a specialised environment like Vets services, Environmental and Agriculture has tought me to be humble and continuously learn the diffent fields and embrace diversity. I enjoy engaging with people at all levels, finding out how i can assist to improve their processes in terms of control environment. The most challenging aspect in our working environment is conducting risk assessment as we have to understand the different specialized fields, it can be difficult at times due to inadequate staff capacity (skills and numbers).

Pros: Great opportunities for growth
Cons: Inadequate staff capacity (skills & numbers)

My relationship with co-workers is great, I like to learn from people, I observe and improve myself where needed. I see working with people as a helping gang hand to achieve the work ethics. I enjoy new challenges, meeting and helping people. I enjoy my work and the environment. Challenges include understanding others reasons and reactions towards their incompetence.
