Challenging, Interesting and Dynamic Environment

Working in Fugro is exciting with challenges and new problems to solve around every corner. A typical work day involves responding to emails, checking and collating data received from the various Financial Controllers in Africa, coaching and empowering the Financial Shared Service Centre Manager and Financial Controllers, attending meetings and making decisions regarding Financial Issues in Africa. I work closely with the Regional Director - Africa as well as the 12 Financial controllers in the region and the Finance Operations Manager of the Shared Services Centre and her team of 11 GL Accountants, AR & AP accountants and clerks. I enjoy every aspect of my job and have learnt how to work and communicate well with a large number of cultures throughout the world. The most challenging aspects have been finding a solution to trapped currency in African countries as well as reducing DRO to acceptable levels throughout the region.

Pros: I have picked up invaluable experience over the years and grown as a person as well as an employee
Cons: The Oil & Gas Market has been struggling for the past 3 years and it is not improving

Not the best working environment. No team work.

• P&L review and Financial Statement Review; • Month-end Reporting; • VAT & Tax Review; • GL Recons review; • Monthly Management meetings with debtors & creditors; • Audits - Resolve all audit queries timeously to the satisfaction of the auditors; • Internal Controls - Review supporting documents received against the accounting standards.

Pros: Small so opportunity to prove yourself is good.
Cons: Structures not well defined.
