Great opportunity to learn and grow

Talking to the different trainees that I work with at my different clients. Catching up with the partners I work for Attending to the clients needs, been able to provide the necessary assistance they need from their auditors, whether been a SARB confirmation, a letter to confirm something for a third party, attending to their business needs queries ( how to account for provisional tax payments in their records, how to treat a certain transaction etc.) Completing the sector admin for the GPS assurance division, whether following up with the different manager for their availability or clients update planning for the next engagement, ensuring that we have the PACE - risk management processes ( pre-engagement activities,) ensuring that I have a team for my upcoming engagements, communicating timing and our requests with the client's, ensuring that the teams understand what is required/ expected from them etc.

Pros: having direct access to the leadership, international assignments, to work with the rest of the global team ( I have a client listed in the US and I work with my EY colleagues from the US and UK when completing work on this client).
Cons: Having to work long hours due to tight deadlines at times. Not getting the initial support more especialy when taking over a client from a collegue,

Articles at EY Johannesburg

In my time of employment at EY which spanned 3 years, I was able to get exposure to a variety of different industries and as such get an educated view of business operations. In summary : - Typical Work Day: a typical work day would span 8 hours and involved balancing the expectations of the client as well as EY managers and providing assistance to junior team members. Relationship with co = workers: a real plus of the auditing environment was to work with a variety of different individuals from different demographic groupings. I got along well with all my colleagues with no notable conflicts. What I have learnt - I learnt pertinent audit methodologies as well as gain an understanding of business operations and reporting structures at a high level. What I enjoy the most - interacting with the client and being able to assist my junior team members Most challenging aspects of the job = understaffed teams with tight reporting deadlines.

Pros: Flexibility
Cons: Repetitive work material with little room for innovation.

Pros: Great learning environment
Cons: There is limits to how far you can go.

Big4 Tax professional Pan-African Engagements with Management Consulting

My last employer being EY : - Typical day at work is arrive, have a meeting with the executive team on what is the focus areas for the week. Planting actions and deadlines for the week - I have a real good relationship with my colleagues. -Constantly learning in this space. Each day there was something new. Through budgeting and costing analysis on strategic global projects and the Tax business. Identifying low hanging fruit and deep diving on how to better be efficient and make tough decisions where needs me. Learning to be agile in the fragile market -Working with different people each day, whether globally or through out Africa. Being able to build relationships and stretch my thinking when I get given a task where I need to apply my mind and build out a model for the Tax leadership to consider and refine. - Constantly being challenged in how we approach issues we face with the businesses in Tax. Growing the business and ensuring we meet margins.

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion, to work on bigger assignments - Having being asked by the Africa CEO to work with him in a Project Lead capacity on secondment due to my strong background and experience in Coordination and Project Management given my network through out Africa and Global reach
Cons: At times you do not feel valued due to what you get paid, you always have to work harder when you get opportunities which reinforce the reasons to why you get identified for positions
