Excellent confirmation and redefinition of role

The role has confirmed my belief in placing the Transformation role at a strategic and authoritative level for implementation to be successful. It has also assisted me to redefine my approach in implementation. I found it interesting interacting with colleagues at various levels and learning about the ICT environment and a company that applies global practices as well as the impact thereof. The role is well paid but misplaced and misunderstood. Lack of Top management support makes it difficult to establish commitment at lower levels, behavior that comes with the territory. My role depends on the support from various departments for it to work, which made things difficult as staff somehow felt overloaded with work and the BEE on the side. The ICT environment can be a demanding place to work in, the company wants to operate at the lowest number of employees but with a lot of work. I had no direct reports which made it difficult for me to focus strategically and the role became more admin focused.

Pros: New environment, working with knowledge able staff.
Cons: Working with less resources

Excellent learning curve during tough economic times

It was an excellent learning curve in an fast changing industry belonging to a sector code,revised and gazetted within a short time. Rigid global policies and reporting structures, challenging economic season within the industry put pressure on most employees' work/life balance due to operations with very limited human resources. Implementation of ICT transformation opportunities limitless to "break the digital divide" and very interesting, working with very technically knowledgeable colleagues though with limited commitment to applying BEE fully in daily operations or align with core business strategy due to global requirements/reporting lines.

Pros: Great opportunity to learn more on technology
Cons: Limited resources due to organizational restructuring
