What I have learnt

I am a people's person. I always liaise with Stakeholders, team members, colleagues. I write letters, respond to emails regarding the directorate. Manage Diectors office in his absence. Use my own initiative most of the time. I have learnt a lot regarding people's skills. I enjoy it when dealing with teams that are getting ready for expedition. Challenging part is I have to be on my toes all the time.

Pros: I needed promotion
Cons: Chances were slim

Developmental career path

Our unit is filled with vibrant young staff dedicated at what they are doing. we work well with each other and even when challenges do arise, we work as a team to resolve the. Management focus is more on deliverables and excellence and is less worried about working hours. I have been exposed to high level decision platforms and also given an opportunity to act in a senior management role and that taught me to me more accountable and responsible to my work and the decisions I make. It has sharpened my leadership skills. The most challenging was making unpopular decisions and communicating the outcome to the external stakeholders, but at the end realising that the ultimate goal was to do the right thing.

Pros: Great exposure
Cons: Prolonged decision making process

I have grown in dealing with different issues at different intervals

I have worked for the Department of Environmental affairs for 6 years and i have grown alot in this industry from doing small projects to major projects like the coal fired power station. i work well with my managers and together with other fellow co-workers. i am able to deal with pressure that comes with our daily activities. The most challenging part of our job is that we have to balance social, economic and environmental sectors in making our decision which is mostly challenging because for a project to be all three is almost impossible,

Pros: for now its not as promising as when we started working back in 2010 because there is no more money in the government sector
Cons: working hours are good except when travelling
