Lots of promises and even more disappointments

After being headhunted to uplift and improve services on a failing contract, I was made an offer that seemed reasonable at the time. A challenge from day one to recover a failing contract which was neglected by senior management and left to unskilled and semi-skilled to run. Ultimately there was very little control or productivity when I arrived on site and maintenance was non-existent. It took a few weeks to gain the trust of the workers and show them a new direction and give support to achieve goals. I have learnt that I need to take immediate action when my contract agreement is not being honoured. From the first month, I was never paid on time, and when I was paid, it was always less than agreed. I was expected to use personal funds to support the company and waited up to 3 months for reimbursement. I completed my contract paying for half my accommodation expenses (contrary to agreement) and paying to get my personal effects out of the country back home. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Pros: Great challenge and rewarding experience to teach and train people.
Cons: Lack of support from senior management, short payments, promises and personal contract agreements not honoured.

Need a steady job and income

At the moment I’m running a small business which includes the following,( Solar systems, Electrical installations including C.O.C’s , Structional work...... ) This kept us going for the last 2 years. So far, I’ve managed to pay our bills, buy groceries ect. To run a small business nowadays are very difficult especially with so much competition. We always wanted to move down to the Cape area , so maybe this is the right opportunity for us. I have good relationship with all my customers and clients, but I need to think of our future and retirement.

Pros: A great opportunity for a steady income
Cons: No time for relaxation
