Control and Instrumentation in mining industry

I am now on a Zync Ore project on site in Northern Cape near Aggeneys. As it is site work I have to manage Instrumentation Installations, do software reviews with the programmers and interface to all other electrical installations. The relationship with vendors and construction workers have to be good as communication between disciplines is very critical during site work. I have learnt more about Ore, Ball Mills and Flotation methods as I continue instrumentation installations. The best part of everyday is testing and checking functional instrumentation back to the Remote IO panel and then to the PLC. Although it is challenging to interface with all different types of communication architectures, one has to adapt to the plant requirement and client standards to get instrument and equipment functional. Portions of the plant is package driven and each vendor for certain equipment installations have to be called upon to verify the correct installation.

Pros: Good learning curve on Ore mining pump types.
Cons: As this is a contract job, all projects have to come to an end.
