Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Reviews

Excellent working environment

its pretty great, fun and challenging to work here as you learn the importance of communication between municipal officials and community members. capturing of challenges or queries made my the communities, taking pictures of anything that is a serious challenge or threat to human life and creating weekly reports and doing follow-ups just after 24 hours of investigation. my relationship with my co-workers is a great one and i have learnt that there are some people at work who do not really wanna work but are given all the good credit for nothing. i enjoy working with people who love and respect their jobs, the on most challenging thing in this job is that one cannot perform their duties correctly if there is no transport to do field work.

Pros: good working environment
Cons: only work 8 hours a day but possibly 12 hours if there are long timed meetings in the afternoons.

A good learning environment

good working environment, everyone is friendly but very competitive, there is a lot of teamwork because there is a hierarchy that has to take place, i learnt that i am a perfectionist, i work well in a team and can be a leader if need be, i enjoy learning new stuff everyday and pushing my capabilities to the max, the most challenging aspect was site inspections, meeting new people everyday and some of them were not so friendly.

Pros: great opportunity for developing my working skills
Cons: not being used to my utmost best capabilities

A challenging enviroment that tested patience and resiliance

Working in the public sector has been a cultural shock, the gap in level of skills and competencies is huge, the technology environment is many years backwards and implementation of projects is extremely challenging due to number of issues. The environment is highly regulated resulting in compliance driven culture as opposed to outcomes driven culture. There is a continuous problem of political encroachment in the day-to-day affairs leading to weakening of governance and accountability systems. Staff performance and attitudes towards work is heavily influenced by Unionism. Nonetheless, it has exposed me to a different application environment. A sector driven by unique socio-economic challenges. I has helped me honed my soft and negotiation skills, and learn striking the often delicate balance between achieving economic objectives and social development objectives.

Pros: Myriad opportunities for innovation
Cons: Rigid and frustrating enviroment

Excellent learning curve

I work from 7am until 15:30 Monday to Friday. I have good working relationship with my co- workers. I have learnt to work very hard and going beyond the call of duty sometimes. I enjoyed working as a regional coordinator, moving from one area to the next. The most challenging aspects of my job is we work with alot of different kinds of people in terms of the hierarchy and you have to do your best to communicate on all levels even bilingual at times.

Pros: Great opportunity to serve your community.
Cons: The shortage of resources and you have to maneuver around that sometimes.
