Enjoy engaging with people and helping them make decisions and driving profitability. Challenges are weak leadership, costly corporate departments and cash flow issues. Managed many complex transactions including the privatising of Edcon [R25 billion transaction in 2007], raising and restructuring of debt [R20 billion in local and foreign debt], securitisations [R6 billion], tax settlements [R9 billion], building profitability models to assess credit risk for customer base of 4 million with a book value of R9 billion and sale of businesses [totalling R2 billion]. Managed large teams effectively together with the outsource of Accounts Payable for Edcon. Drove profitability at an operational level and corporate level.

My greatest lesson in life

I facilitate all legal and secretarial in related matters from customer complaints, contract management and Board of director meeting preparations. We are a small team, very close and get we all along with each other. Our relationships are based on honesty and teamwork. We work exceptionally well together on a professional level and treat each other like family on a personal level. I have learnt a lot about my ability to develop my skills independently, my resourcefulness and resilience in trying times during the company's journey - after facing many restructures and near liquidation. I enjoy most the people I work with and special engagements I have encountered with many other colleagues. The most challenging aspect of my job is being taken seriously in my ability to contribute and add value in my role. I add great value to my team, my boss and my company as a whole, but I am not valued for that and stagnating.

Gaining of work experience

Working for a company like Edcon is a great pleasure because of it's well establish name and great service provided world wild, Though working for such a company you need to know your story because days can be hectic especially month end it is even hard to get time for lunch as busy as it gets around those times. I worked with very great people who know and understands the meaning of team work and are very ethically,at my period at this place I have learned more patience,hard work,dedication,going the extra mile,caring for other people,laughing even on my hardest days and many more and I can say the most challenging aspects of the job is pleasing a angry and furious customer but a challenge that can be overcome.

Pros: Great exercise of working with people
Cons: Long working hours and no room for growth

Retrenchment

I have been employed by Edcon Ltd for 33 years and I am currently a manager in the Group Treasury Department. I would like to share the knowledge I have gained in the Corporate environment. Although my experience is in the financial domain, I would like to explore new opportunities and hope to be considered for other disciplines as well.

I learn a lot about this company(excellent)

Edcon teach me a lot of work ,customer service,sales ,floor manager and merchandise the floor.I know how to do visual job and when it comes of customer service I am brilliant.call centre I'm so good telephone and energetic, I really like my work.

Assess the claims,data capturing ,good communication skill &followups,process the claims

data capturing team worker good communication skill problem solving skills customer service dealing with people who are emotionally hurt & frustrated I learned to work under a lot of pleasure with the funeral claims & IOD`s for EDCON employees. good relationship with the co-workers was the best the best thing ever

High pressure environment, growth possible

Fast paced and pressure. 8 hour work day, some weekends Great relationships with colleagues I enjoyed being given the privilege to lead Most challenging aspect is senior management and their inability to put people before numbers

i have a good relationship with my colleague and superiors because of my morals , i respect other people , i enjoy helping other people and the most challenging aspect of my job is to sell something to someone who doesn't even see you

Excellent to work with Edcon Ltd you gain so much experience

I work as an financial shared services I have a good relationship with my cco-work hence I have get to learn lot of staff. I have learned to co-operate with different people and I have learned to work underpressure. I really enjoyed doing invoices and recons most and adhoc the gift cards invoice So far I have not faced any challenges is just I always plan and be organized at all times.

Pros: I had a great opportunity to be extended contract for extra one month
Cons: Normally working hours from 8 to 4 but I usually arrive earliearlier than that
