Hard adjustment

My experience with Econorisk provided me with the opportunity to manage an office environment, dealing with the day-to day running of the office and things such as parking allocations ordering of office supplies etc. I also manage the company’s social media accounts which has taught me the importance of extensive research and how social media is a crucial aspect of marketing. Through our social media pages, we have managed to earn peoples trust and bring more clients on-board. I get along with my colleagues and have a good working relationship with them. The environment is very relaxed, there's always a lot of social activities. a typical work day is spent answering the phone. There isn't a lot to do and most of the time when I do ask for work; it isn't very challenging and takes me not more than an hour to complete and I'm back to having nothing to do. I'm not a lazy person and enjoy putting in hard work and being busy, therefore my job has not been fulfilling because of this fact.

Pros: alot of opportunity for growth
Cons: long working hours, it is not in my preferred city of choice

As detailed below:

- A typical work day : facultative placements, overall responsibility of marine division ie underwriting risk, client servicing, invoicing, credit control, policy issuing, endorsements, confirmation of cover issued to clients / financial institutions upon request, market exercise, comparison spreadsheets to client, claims vs premium / loss ratio statistics by means of graphs - Your relationship with co-workers: assisting Account Executives with the handling of the marine policies iro their portfolios (commercial and corporate) I enjoy the various forms of marine insurance, specifically vetting contractual obligations on behalf of the insured in terms of their insurance requirements.

Pros: overall responsiblity therefor growth opportunities long term
Cons: challenging in terms of being the only person responsible for the entire marine portfolio and delivering according to everyone's expectations

You are not allow to think for yourself

The staff and people are very nice and I get on with each and every person. I am running the social committee for the Company, including any external events that must be organized for Company. i.e Trucker Braai, Introduction between Insurance Company's staff and our staff. Very fast pase. The system is not very friendly although my personal opion is that the system is andvance, it it just the people in our office that is involved do not want to give any authority to staff. We are not allowed to do our own cancellations, re-instatements, change of Insurance ect. The Departemental Heads are not people persons and need to work on their people skills. To be promoted is not a challange as the people here are here to stay. It is like a family business.

Pros: They are very set on training and qualifications. The Company will pay
Cons: you are not allow to think for yourself. magament is set in their own ways. Your opinion does not count

Interesting learning experience

Fast paced. Clients are truelly regarded as important. Going paperless project entailed extra pressured working hours. Socially united but divided departmentally atmosphere.

Pros: Recognition

Introduction to Marine Insurance

A typical day would include the following: Obtain quotations from the market Preparation and collation of documentation to present to Insured for renewals or new business proposals. Meeting with clients Minutes of meeting Attending to e-mails enquiries, credit control, confirmation of covers. Telephonic enquiries etc. I have good relationships with my colleagues and work well with them.I have been involved in personal lines clients, from new quotations to renewal and queries from existing clients. I have further been introduced to Marine insurance. I enjoy building relationships with clients. The most challenging aspects of the job has been having to deal with some Marine policies, of which I have never had previous exposure to.

Pros: Exposure to personal lines and marine lines of business
Cons: Long working hours
