Department of Defence Reviews

Exposure

I was responsible for all the related Training documentation and also responsible for any related Training queries. We had a great relationship with my co-workers, we helped one another where we could and we worked well as a team. I have learnt to be professional in everything I do and I have gained valuable experience which will help me to be competent and productive in any working environment, I enjoyed organising training events and also make sure that everything is in place for training facilitators. The only challenge I had was that we had less staff members so I had to perform many duties which I believe it was a good thing because i got more exposure.

Pros: they had financial problems so
Cons: 07:00 - 16:00

Great learning curve

I interact with various cultures and ethnicity groups on a daily basis. I therefore have the ability to work with all cultures, at all levels. I would say that my relationship with co-workers are very good. I believe that respect is earned, not given.. I always strive to treat others (whether senior personnel or subordinates) like I would like to be treated. My current job responsibility (mainly) is to manage members that apply for Studies at State Expense. I am responsible for the admin thereof, contract management and payment of invoices to the various institutions. I also serve as approval officer on the PERSOL system. to name a few. In the HR environment where I'm at, no typical day is the same. 'Crisis Management' is a constant reality and one must be able to manage it effectively.

Pros: Working hours (8am to 4pm)
Cons: Contract Base

Excellent first job

Respect, being on time (7 min early) and listening and following commands were the main rules. Senior don't really pay interest to what the juniors are saying since they have been too long in the army so they know better than anyone else. I enjoyed drilling, its just a weird thing to do but it gets interesting as time goes by. my typical day were during exercises were we have to supply in the bush, hot or cold.

Pros: Being able to work under any weTHER CONDITION.
Cons: being on time

Office management and supply support

I am one who started working in a corporate compnies, now I feel working for government is not challenging. While I need to explore in my career if feel like I am stuck. I started working as a secretary and received a certificate of being the best secret in 2009. Worked as a Facility clerk and payment clerk as well. I really need to go for a new environment and challenge.

Pros: learned that the purpose for working there is to serve the country. but found out that there no lot of exposure for me as a non uniform member. as they are lots of activities done by only uniform member and is as civilians we also left out.
Cons: 7hours in a day sometimes less than that as I have mentioned that they are lot of activities taking place.

Excellent learning curve

Working in the public sector up to now has a good learning experience for me and a suitable manner to enter the working world as a graduate. A typical day on the job involves capturing banking details of suppliers on the department systems as well as attending to and assisting suppliers with any queries regarding their banking details. I work really well with my co-workers as a team as i am learning something new from them, such as how to deal with supplier queries over the telephone and exactly how the systems of government operate with regards to employing a private company to do a particular job for the department.

Pros: great learning experience and exposure to job opportunities in the public sector.
Cons: work becomes routine after a few months.

Exellent learning curve

A typical day at work .I work in an Intelligence environment, I cannot disclose every aspect of my daily activities. But among other things my work involved a lot of data mining. It also involves liaising with Intelligence personal throughout SADC countries. Answering Intelligence questions and managing Information from all over the world. Relationship with co-workers Intelligence environment requires closer cooperation between colleagues because from time to time we substitute each other when necessary. I most enjoy the working relationships that I have with Intelligence personnel and also with people across the globe. I also get satisfied when I answer Intelligence questions to the satisfaction of my colleagues and clients The most challenging is making your sources trust you.

Pros: Oppotunity for promotion
Cons: Proposed relocation of the offices to GEROTEK. Its way out of the CBD and no public transport

Excellent practical experience exposure

I work an 8am to 16pm job in a small work environment of less than 10 people where everyone pretty much get along and it is a very disciplined environment . Close ties and great corporation exist between me and my co workers. What I enjoy most is doing what love which is working with figures, dealing with suppliers queries, and working with petty cash . Working for the department of defence has taught me how to interact with different people, some who don't even understand accounting at all, how to handle suppliers queries, the significance of being disciplined and the importance of always having good control measures in order to always have enough audit evidence. The challenging aspects of the job is working with people who don't understand any aspect of finance whatsoever

Pros: great way of getting good practical experience
Cons: dealing with orders
