My company is a great compant to work in and has a great envionment
1.My Typical work day is to focus on the safe working of the team first and making sure that all are working safe and according to safe work procedures. 2.Followed by production meeting that I chair where the focus is on the KPI's of the plant . 3.My relationship with the co-workers is a strictly professional relationship and that of support to each other through the UGR (Unwritten ground rules). 4.I have learned how to produce steel of different grades at a limited time. 5.I enjoy working with a Team environment and seeing the results come through. 6.What challenges but I make it my joy is to keep the team focused always.
Pros: Good environment and great people
Cons: My family is in hartebeesfontein (Brits) it makes it difficul for me I have to travel over weekends.Would like to work close to my wife and kids.

Good learning experience and fast learner

Learner steelmaker
It's a good working environment , Columbus stainless steel is one of the biggest supplier of flat sheet stainless steel products. Safety is a priority in every thing that is done. They're the major players in our domestic market as well as In the global arena. being part of Columbus has taught me great thinks about life and I have learned a lot to face most challenges.

More exposure and a platform to keep up with the latest developments
I have been exposed/ given a platform were we work and master different plants. We are playing a big role of maintaining the plants and being available for assisting in anyway we can. I work 3 man shift and on weekends we have two shifts as the other one goes off. The teams that are there are treating each other with respect and always work as a team. We normally have team building and that is when we restructure the team to be more competent and productive. It is sometimes challenging to be rotated to different plants as their functions differ and on the other hand is beneficial to us as we continue to get more exposure.

• Plant maintenance, Breakdowns, shutdowns, Daily Inspections, General safety and spares management , Working Overtimes and shifts , • Knowledge on Single and 3 Phase systems, Cranes, lubrication and cooling systems, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems etc. T • I’m competent to lock-out the plant, operate a Plasma Cutter, Overhead cranes and Roll Tractors, overhaul/building spare acid pumps, assist technicians to do fault finding on PLC and Drives etc
