Great working evironment for continuous learning

SHE Inspections at the processing plant and underground workings 3times a week and 2 days in office completing reports on standards,legal compliances and non-conformances. Bi monthly SHE meetings,monthly subcommittee she meeting,monthly management meeting and weekly reporting on inspections. Working at Buffalo Coal is good because learning is an everyday attribute, the She department is the only family and friends I have in kwazulu natal and the support from the She manager is great considering the state of the company. The main challenge is the sometimes my projects can't be seen through because of financial strain company is experiencing and the regulators are always on our backs.

Pros: industry of continuous learning and fielld work is wjat I love.
Cons: distant from family and there is no guarantee of yearly inflation increament

Excellent learning curve filled with challenges and opportunities

I arrived at working at 7 am and knock off at 15:00. When I arrive I always go out on site to record daily water readings. I then come to the office an d record the figures and do an analysis every month end. I then go out on site for compliance monitoring for these environmental aspects, water quality, waste management, air quality and do site investigations when there is an incident that has occurred. I also review and comment on the Environmental Authorisations and Assessment (EIA) that the company applies for. I have a good relationship with my supervisor. I have learnt a lot such as performing analytical studies on figures. What I enjoy the most is environmental Awareness campaigns which allow me to engage more with stakeholders. The most challenging is the work stress that comes with compiling a month end report as this is the busiest time of the month. However, I always triumph and conquer the challenge.

Taking leadership

I André Kotze work at Buffalo coal mine in Dundee Kzn as a Acting Plant operator. My job is to run our Calcine Plant and take responsibility for the plant and production. I am also responsible for my people that work in the plant. If anyone in the plant has a problem they have to report to me, that shows I can carry responsibility and take leadership. I also believe every company is different and one deserves a chance to prove yourself if a new opportunity comes your way.

Pros: Can move into a higher position F.e Foreman
Cons: Salary is low
