BARC Reviews

Excellent learning experience

At BARC I was responsible for the set up as per protocol and management of multiple local and global clinical trials. This involved the compilation of study binders and study instruction documents, coordination of all trial samples, reports, raw data and accounts for each designated trial. And liaising with trial sponsors and site staff to resolve matters arising relating to clinical trial specimens and sites as well as attending regular site visits and /or tele-conferences to monitor ongoing studies and queries. I had an excellent relationship with co- workers and did my best to assist them in their relevant duties. I learnt about project management, collaboration and client liaison. I enjoyed the challenge of setting up different clinical trials and collaborating with BARC Belgium on the global trials. The most challenging aspect was the enormous work load and the fact that as a project manager you are often required to work extended hours and weekends.

Pros: Great opportunity for growth
Cons: Extremely long working hours and weekend work

Good future prospects

I have graduated with a Bcom Accounting degree in 2012. I have 5 years relevant working experience in the field. I am currently the Financial Accountant of BARC SA (previously Accountant of SMS Steel), a few of my duties include --Maintenance of the General Ledger and the Fixed Asset Register, VAT201 Returns/ Audits, Maintaining Monthly Cost & Income Reports (also per area) & Expense Variance Analysis, Monthly Balance sheet, amongst many other duties. I am furthering my studies by pursuing the CIMA route. The Financial Manager of BARC resigned in July 2015, and I was given the opportunity to continue with her tasks and lead the team until a new FM was appointed 6 months later. I have proved to be successful and seeking greater challenges ahead.

Pros: Flexibility
Cons: Communication of info
