Afrimat Reviews

Already an asset

I am a young and developing Chemical Engineer and studying towards my national diploma and completed fourth level (S4) At the University of South Africa in 2012. Previously I was an Assistant Metallurgist at Glencore Eland platinum Mine. I set very high standards for myself and the people around me. I am much focused on accomplishing tasks, but very aware of the necessity of teamwork to accomplish results. I consider myself a very hardworking; leader and I value integrity and honesty. Although I am very result driven, my strong people skills and focus on building effective relationships in the work context, will make an excellent asset for any organisation. I am willing to learn, work hard and do whatever it will take to follow a successful career in any company. I am motivated by challenges and I work well under pressure. I am well organized and good at handling and presenting data, I also have good communication skills with a good command in English.

Pros: Career Development
Cons: working hours

Excellent learning curve

Working at Afrimat is quite challanging , hence t 6 am you must be at work. but it has taught me time management also that the safety of others is as good my own. I enjoy working for Afrimat due to that electrical work is my passion, having to maintain plants ,connect motors, assist in building new plants and building controlling panels, I love doing so. Good relation with people is essential .

Pros: Good for learning
Cons: working long hours

Good learning curve, and new programmes learnt

A typical workday is mainly daily orders, but most orders are on breakdown so your day is really hectic, because if production stands it costs the mine money. Long working hours from 6am to 4Pm I have gained a lot of new knowledge on new systems used for procurement. Most challenging is to get materials and stock on the mine as in Yesterday because of breakdowns

Pros: Good company Good salary
Cons: Retrenchment possibilities and also no promotion possibilities, long working hours and the travelling

Excellent leaning curve

I most enjoy the company of my colleagues. I don not like the fact that we get bonus once a year . I am motivated to work due to the experience given in the field I am working on. I have learnt to manage time, and keep good working record through listening when rebuked or advised. My expertise in this field have grown because of daily work. A typical work day is when you build a panel(direct on line) to control a pump or maintain grinders e.g changing motor brushes if damaged. The most challenging this is that you make certain every day you grow since its a field in which it demands accuracy and attention.

Pros: good for working
Cons: long hours

I have learned the afrimat values applied was with utmost respect at the workplace. I enjoyed most of the motivations that comes from the Top management, all the way to the labourers. Most challenging moment was when the Covid19 striked the Country and employees where traumatized about the pandemic.

Most challenging aspects of the job

The quarry is not that big... but the company is very expanded... Afrimat can always appoint new people but they dont think about paying their current workers a little more.

Pros: They can send you for training or you can study through the company
