What a challenge!

A typical workday involves managing my own team plus interfacing with about 20 to 40 functional leads and Line managers throughout the business. We have about 60 operational and office locations countrywide. I have a direct line management relationship with the core engineering team consisting of 10 people - the balance are all managed through matrix-relations at various levels and people fulfilling a variety of functions such as finance, operations, safety, IT etc. I mostly rely on relations and influencing to drive change and implement projects and new initiatives. I have learnt the healthy, enduring relationships and affordable technical compromises gets the job done and grows co-ownership. I enjoy the strategic aspects of my job most - looking ahead and creating solutions for tommorrow's problems/risks. The most challenging aspects of my job is to be actively engaged at strategic, technical and detail operational levels at all times.

Pros: Results oriented business culture with very little internal politics. Strong mandate to act and make decisions.
Cons: Hectic workload and long office hours.

HOPING TO GET A BETTER OFFER

ITS NICE TO START THE DAY SINCE THE SYSTEMS ARE OK BUT THE CHALLENGE IS ON IMPLEMENTATION BECAUSE OF BEING UNDER STAFFED. IMLEARNT THAT IN BUSINESS IF YOU WANT TO MAKE MONEY YOUN HAVE TO SPENT MONEY. I ENJOY INITIATING THINGS AND WATCHING THEM SUCCEED.

Cons: working at two different places
