Afrihost Reviews

Life in the big city of Afrihost

1. Workload versus compensation is not on par. In other words, the amount of work and responsibilities are not compensated, and neither is the compensation on point with market value. 2. Great personal interactions with various different origins of workers within the company. Very diverse. 3. I have adapted well in the last 15 months at Afrihost, all the co-workers of excellent caliber, willingness to learn, and in most cases excel in what they do. 4. I love the personal interaction with my co-workers; we help each other daily to overcome small and large obstacles during our work day. 5. The most challenging aspects of the job is to liaise with management when they are not receptive to ideas, or growth opportunities of individuals.

Pros: Yearly parties are phenominal
Cons: 150% work load versus being paid 45%.

Self taught and always empower my team.

I've been with Afrihost for 8 years and have grown in every area of the business. I taught myself everything I know and always believe that you can always learn new things if you just apply yourself. I have also trained several staff reagrding what they require to be a support agent at Afrihost and also provided them with several advanced training as well. The Afrihost culture, which we try very hard to keep, is to be family to each other and make the best of every situation. I have a great relationship with all staff and they count on me for personal or work related issue's. My most challenging thing at Afrihost, is not being able to make a crucial decision for my department and never having higher management back you up. I have won several awards as a Manager, Supervisor and best support in the company.

Pros: Great benefits and people
Cons: No communication and no proper HR

Excellent learning Curve, Managerial skills, IT Support, Team Leader

If one of my employees were having a bad day I would take them for a game of pool or table tennis and talk to them. I learnt many things during my time there. How to stick at something for four years and get good at it. Being a manger taught me that no matter what decision is made, someone is not going to be happy. The more a team feels like a team, the better they perform. Everyone's opinion matters, but at the end of the day our clients need assistance and we must provide it to the best of our ability. The most challenging part of my job at first, was dealing with our server admin department. I networked within the department and made many good friends. This later assisted me in getting the work my team or I requested done efficiently and without many problems. When there were problems, I addressed them swiftly and calmly and got the issue/s resolved.

Pros: Moved up to a managerial role, free lunch, coffee and tea, table tennis, gym, games room.
Cons: The company did not pay well enough. No medical aid. working night shift. Not enough opportunity for growth.

Experience is what matters.

Typically as a support agent, you come in on your shift and handle support queries from Clients Be it Web hosting queries, Mail server issues, connectivity issues or any network related issues that clients might call in, email in, send a chat request for or walk into the office for. I have learnt a lot at the company since before starting i had no idea how the Internet works, today i know all the layers of an OSI model. Although a bit of training is provided, to keep up, sell learning is important as technologies develop, businesses develop too. From what i learnt, i was able to branch out and learn more about the Networking Fundations, properties, tools and security. The company tries to promote a family kind of business environment, although everyone gets along pretty well at the company, there are some racial tensions. Besides all that, the facilities of the company are to die for, there's a gym, a gaming area, an 8 ball pool area and free beer every Friday and they have the best coffee.

Pros: Free breakfast and lunch, free connectivity, free gym
Cons: Low salaries, long hours, no growth

Great learning opportunities and personal growth.

One of the challenges with inbound calls are the high rates of calls and high demand of customer satisfaction; however understanding the clients needs is the base of getting any problem resolved and having a happy client.

Pros: Having to learn insightful information without having to pay a tutor.
Cons: Shifts depends on team performances. The team that has lower results may work night shift or even on weekends.

Its a great place to learn

There is a lot to learn in terms of system use, technical jargon, hosting. But no rewards for working hard and being loyal. Constantly changing rules with no notice. For example today you can give a password to someone who is not an account holder, following day you can't.

Pros: Lunch, gym, insurance medical aid.
Cons: Long hours, no incentives, no appreciation of working hard.
