Excellent training

I do enjoy working at ActombJohn Thompson as maintenance mechanical fitter and my responsibility and duties are Strip and assembling spindle mill, rebuilds and overhauls, Cleaning and changing mill gearboxes oil and filters also greasing gearboxes shaft and bearings ,Doing daily inspection on the milling plant, installation and alignment of feeders gearboxes and motors, working on different lubrication like oil and grease, Working on different types of seals like packing seals, o-ring seals, rebber seals, working on rigging, installation of coupling in a drives and motors,doing housekeeping, services, ball adds and ball changes, taking and measuring internal mill components,drilling and grinding,sharpening,tapping

Pros: Great opportunity so far as mechanical fitter
Cons: Eight hours working day

Very good

I have learned to work under pressure and working very long hours. I have good relationship with my co-workers and we alwaya wirk as a team. I enjoy learning new things evryday.

Growth is possible but very slow

On a daily basis we have safety talks (toolbox talks) done before work commences and we also monthly meetings to discuss issues that employees might be encountering regarding their work or any issues they might come across. Dealing co-workers can be a bit challenging at times because they would always expect the safety department to solve each and every issue that they have. they also have a tendency of putting HSE department under huge chunks of pressure, so that creates a bit of tension when they don't always get what they want and that causes them to rebel and not comply n terms of safety since they were not satisfied

Cons: Long hours with a low wage/salary

On site hands on safety related issues ,with client (Eskom)

Daily morning management meeting at 06h00. Toobox talk at about 07h00. Plant inspection from 08h20 .Monitor PPE on site and report unsafe conditions .Communicat procedures and e-mails before 12h00. Most challenge on site is Supervisor that take short cuts on not following protocol.Currently our RCR Rate is good its 0.00.I am commited and its my passion to work as Safety Officer on site.

Pros: My main goal is to become an Auditor i do have all the qualification to to Auditing.
Cons: I do work long hours

Excellent learner

Mills rebuild, pf pipes changes, installation of gearboxes. House keeping of work place. Installation of cute pipe to drain coals. Do ball adds and ball changes lifting the rings remove the ball from the mills

Good experience would like to learn more

Everyday is a new challenge and i am busy everyday which i like with a great team of workers under me. We support each orher fully. Problems are sorted out between us instantly without arguments. The RP Course was a challenge and difficult but yet rewarding. I enjoy completing my work within time to the best of my ability. Would like to learn more tough.

• Preparing Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) based on project scope. • Extracting main critical path & nearby critical paths activities from the schedule. • Tracking, updating and reporting Schedule progress and performance against baseline. • Ability to identify and mitigate projects risks.

NThe company doesn't have any way for growth or any other form of advancement. There There's no perks at all to motivate any kind of hard work company doesn't promote any advancmeo promotion or any benefitsprom

Great learning experience

Working at ACTOM John Thompson Durban Water tube division provides one with a good background when it comes to the boiler industry, making construction estimates, planning working before executing becomes engraved in the mind and providing clients with a reasonable price to complete any tasks provided.

Pros: Good exposure
Cons: Long working hours, low pay
